Project Details

This project was for a Haywards Heath based customer, who, some of the directors had previously done design work and repaired a driveway for. The work required a small amount of landscaping to finish the job, once the extension was completed. Namely, some white painted, rendered walls, some sandstone steps and a decking area immediately outside the French doors. The deck, was to provide an all year round, clean, access from the kitchen/diner to the garage, the drive and onto the lawn. This particular deck was sanded once laid, as young children were likely to play on it.

The build itself, consisted of a small amount of demolition, of existing walls, gates and steps and the complete end wall of the house over three floors and a loft space! The customer required an open plan kitchen/ dining room and two pairs of patio doors at 90o to the corner of this room. This necessitated several huge steel beams connected to a steel post at the corner where the doors hung. It would not have been possible to have built the corner in masonry alone, to have supported the doors, the steels and the corner of the house and roof. Obviously, the whole project was subject to planning approval, which was done prior to our involvement and to building regulations which we obtained and worked to. On this occasion we used an independent building control officer, who, while just as strict as the council ones, offered us more flexibility in terms of inspection times and consultation. The whole project was overseen and site managed by Grosvenor, as far as possible, ‘in house’, with specialist sub-contract brought in where required. Some other internal changes were made to bathrooms and the layout inside the house. The customer, despite having to live through most of the work was delighted with the job. Despite being multi-faceted in terms of tasks required, it was relatively ‘snag’ free and was completed on time and on budget.
