The design process starts with an initial on-site consultation. This is usually free of any charge. Much time is spent discussing your requirements for the project. Information gleaned from the site visit and these discussions will be used to create a design brief. Factors that influence the design brief include who is the garden to be used by and for what and when, identifying existing outbuildings, structures and planting to be incorporated or removed /replaced, the location and access to the house, desired levels of maintenance, features to be incorporated / avoided in the design as well as determining the general style which would be your wish for the design to reflect.
